Montserrat is known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean because of its lush green hills and mountains, and its connection to Ireland. Example: Saint Patrick’s Day is a national/public holiday in Montserrat, Ireland and Newfoundland, Canada. In Montserrat, it is a week-long celebration of our Irish and West African heritage and our ancest

Montserrat is known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean because of its lush green hills and mountains, and its connection to Ireland. Example: Saint Patrick’s Day is a national/public holiday in Montserrat, Ireland and Newfoundland, Canada. In Montserrat, it is a week-long celebration of our Irish and West African heritage and our ancestors’ fight for freedom, when they planned a rebellion on March 17, 1768. They didn’t succeed because someone leaked the plan; consequently, their Irish and English masters executed some of them, and imprisoned or banished others.
